App creation and Prototype for the SAP Hackathon 2018
Looking around there are plenty of people searching for career jobs, and there are a ton of job openings... so why aren't they finding one another? We would like to solve this disconnect and if it can be useful, to include machine learning/AI capabilities.
We recognized that there is a disconnect between Job Seekers, the Hiring Managers, and the Jobs themselves. We went and interviewed people along the streets as well as those within SAP. The general consensus was that it is hard to know what skillset is actually needed for a position (job applications include many skills that are not necessarily manditory), that soft skills tend to be more important then hard skills, and experience, although useful, cannot actually demonstrate if the applicant is capable (and vice versa, there are those with little experience who may actually have the skills and may not even make it through the resume stage).
We wanted to create a new way of applying for jobs where skills would be more accurately portrayed, where statistics and machine learning could help people compare their skillsets to those in careers they want and learn where they can ameliorate their skills. A place where people would have resources to add to their skillsets and a space to make the hiring process easier for the Hiring Managers.
We discussed different ways of interviewing: how it has been studied and proven how little you can gleam about a person based on an interview, that it might be more pertinent to introduce the idea of speed interviewing and creating small tests to really see if the applicant has the required hard skills.
